Vice Principal: Biography

Prof Samson Sajidu

Samson Sajidu is the Vice Principal of Chancellor College, having been appointed to the position in 2015.Previously, Samson Sajidu served as a lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, with water chemistry as an area of specialisation. He has also held the positions of Dean of Science and Head of Chemistry Department. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Malawi in 2000, majoring in Chemistry. He also holds a Phil in Chemistry (2001) from University of Cambridge, and was awarded a PhD in Chemistry (2008) from the University of Malawi and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

Associate Professor Sajidu is a seasoned academic, having led and undertaken research in a number of areas, including the identification of water fluoric areas in Malawi, use of locally sourced materials such as gypysum, bauxite and clays in water defluoridation, use of Moringa oleifera, Moringa stenopetala and clays in heavy metal detoxification in water. He has supervised students at undergraduate and Masters levels. He is also the Editor of the Malawi Journal of Science and Technology. He is also the author of numerous internationally refereed journal articles. He has also presented a number of papers at international conferences, and is a renowned consultant within the country.

Associate Professor Sajidu is a member of several societies. He is the Secretary General of the Association of Professional Chemists and Chemical Engineers of Malawi, a board member of the Council for National Herbarium and Botanical Gardens of Malawi, , as well as the Secondary School Committee of the National Commission for Science and Technology.
